What to do?

Hebrews 12:12-14  (NKJV)

12 Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees,

13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

The Lord wants things strengthened and healed.  Not failed and destroyed.

14 Pursue peace with all people, and holinesswithout which no one will see the Lord:

We are to pursue peace and holiness.

Both peace and holiness are descriptive words for the Holy Spirit.

He is called the Holy Spirit.  He is also the Spirit of Peace.

Galatians 5:22 (NKJV)

the fruit of the Spirit is... peace...

God, too, is called the God of Peace.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NKJV)

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely...

The Gospel is called the Gospel of Peace.

Romans 10:15  (NKJV)

...“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

How to discern the Holy Spirit's guidance is through His peace.

We're not talking about a peace that comes from a pill.

Satan pushes substance abuse, so you'll lose control to him.

Satan wants to control us.  Don't yield to demonic spirits.

The Holy Spirit does not manipulate us.

He doesn't control us.

He wants us to voluntarily yield ourselves to Him moment by moment and step by step.

If He wanted to force us to do anything, He would have forced us to be saved (2 Peter 3:9).

He is good shepherd.

We hear His voice in our hearts, and we follow Him willingly (John 10:27).

How do we know His voice?

We follow His peace.

He is the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of Holiness, and the Spirit of Peace.

Need to make a decision?

How can you get it right?

You need to hear from the Holy Spirit.  He is the Spirit of Peace.

1 Peter 3:10 (NKJV)

10 For “He who would love life
And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
And his lips from speaking deceit.

Talking unbelief is evil.

Talking anything false is evil.

Never tell lie.

Your words matter.

We need to talk faith and say what God says.

1 Peter 3:11 (NKJV)

11 Let him turn away from evil and do good;
Let him seek peace and pursue it.

Look for God's peace inside of you before you make a decision, and then yield to it.

Ask God what you should do, and check for God's peace inside of you in the matter.

We should be lead by the Spirit of God who is the Spirit of Peace.  Ask, do I do this or that?

We should be lead by the Spirit of Peace.

If we make decisions by the Holy Spirit, He knows the end from the beginning.

We will get it right if we listen to Him.

Don't be lead by price or compensation.

All you have to do is develop an awareness of the Spirit of Peace inside you who knows what to do all the time.

Proverbs 3:5-6  (NKJV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean (depend) not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

We need to stop, pause, and ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance.

Just check in.

I'm not talking about hearing audible voices. I'm talking about checking for the Holy Spirit's peace inside of you.

Romans 8:16  (NKJV)

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

The Holy Spirit is communicating with our born again human spirit telling us who we are and what to do.

We must pause and listen to Him.

He doesn't overpower us with His voice.

Just like when we got saved.

Revelation 3:20  (NKJV)

20 Behold, I (Jesus) stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

We had to pause to hear Him knocking.  He will only come in upon invitation.

1 Corinthians 14:33  (NKJV)

33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace...

God is never confused.

He knows the end from the beginning.

He saw it coming before you knew it could come.

He can never give you confusion because He is never confused.

The evil spirits are mad.

The devil can't give you peace because he don't have it to give.

They are not happy.

They have lost their place in heaven (Revelation 12:4,10).

They are trying to control us, but they can't crush God's Church (Matthew 16:18).

It isn't going well for them (Ephesians 6:12).

They are trying to instigate strife and confusion (James 3:15).

The more confusion the less God is in it, and the more the enemy is manifested.

Isaiah 48:22  (NKJV)

22 There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.”

James 3:14-15 (NKJV)

14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

John 14:27  (NKJV)

27 Peace I (Jesus) leave with you, My peace I give to you

not as the world gives do I give to you.

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

When you are born again, peace washes over your entire being.

You know that you're not going to hell.

You're saved.

You're accepted.

You have peace.

You are able to relax and worship God.

You may say that you wish that you could be that sure.  You can be sure if you believe the Bible.

Romans 10:13  (NKJV)

13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

When you're doing stuff in the flesh and doing it the wrong way, it will bother you on the inside.

Check on the inside for peace.

You need to pause and listen for it.

If you've ignored it for so long, it'll get dull.  You're still saved; however, you're missing God's best.

You've got to keep yourself sensitive to your insides.

You don't want to be hard hearted, but tender hearted.

If something bothers you, don't ignore it.

As soon as it bothers you, recognize it.

The Holy Spirit will convict you, but He won't condemn you.  Your own heart will condemn you.

1 John 3:20-21  (NKJV)

20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.

If your own heart condemns you, stop right there and ask forgiveness from God and anyone else that you've offended.

If they aren't there, call them.

Don't let the night pass with your heart bothering you.

Ephesians 4:26-27  (NKJV)

26 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil.

How are we finding guidance?

We are looking for peace on our insides from the Holy Spirit, and then we are following that peace.

What if something is bothering us?

We need to quit that.

We need to quit going that direction.

Don't let your pride and your plans get in the way of God's peace.

Do not follow confusion, unrest, or anxiety.

You might not know why.

Don't do it if you don't have God's peace.

If bad things happen, don't ask why did God allow it?

Ask, was I following God's peace?

Pay attention.

Don't override it.

Don't ignore it.

If everything okay, it's not a problem.

If something is bothering you, pause.

If you can't get peace, put it on hold.

If you don't know why, and can't explain it, don't do it!

Philippians 4:7  (NKJV)

and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Following God's peace will keep your heart, mind, and also keep you alive if you'll only keep following God's peace.

The enemy is always trying to set us up to kill us.

He's trying to get us in the wrong place at the wrong time to mess us up.

John 10:10 (NKJV)

10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy...

1 John 4:4 (NKJV)

... He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

2 Corinthians 2:11 (NKJV)

11 lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

We must learn to be lead by God's Holy Spirit.

Satan might have worked for months or years to set us up.

In that moment of time, the Holy Spirit will step in to warn us if we'd only be listening to His peace, and Satan's schemes will be prevented.

You might not know what would have happened.

You just know everything's okay.

If you go day after day, month after month, and year after year with no significant problems, you're getting help.  Cause this world is a dangerous place.

Psalm 91:1  (NKJV)

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Satan is a killer.

He's a destroyer.

He doesn't want peace.

He wants war.

He gets people to believe lies about each other.

He's after confusion and strife.

We don't ever have to allow the enemy to work us up into that state.

We must protect our heart, and keep our peace.

Proverbs 4:23  (NKJV)

23 Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.

Don't allow anything to steal your peace.

Hold on to the peace that passes understanding.

I'm not going to follow strife and confusion.

Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

You (God) will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)
For unto us a Child (Jesus) is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Revelation 3:20  (NKJV)

20 Behold, I (Jesus) stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

Lord Jesus, please come into me.

I surrender my life to you.

Forgive my past.

Take my future.

Holy Spirit, I surrender to your peace and your guidance.

I will follow your peace.

Colossians 3:15  (NKJV)

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts...

Amen!

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

The Worry Pill

Matthew 6:19-34 (NKJV) 19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22  “The lamp of the body (the window that lets in the light) is the eye. If therefore your eye is good (opened), your whole body will be full of light.  23  But if your eye is bad (closed) , your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great  is  that darkness! (Our eyes allow light to give us direction).   24  “No one can serve two masters (an inability to focus in one direction); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise t...
