The Key to Power



John 12 (NKJV)

49 For I (Jesus) have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.




This is key in doing things in the Spirit verses doing things influenced by our physical bodies.  






50 And I know that His command is everlasting life. 



Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak.”






The key to being influenced by God's Holy Spirit is a continually surrendered will.  






Jesus didn't say everything that crossed His mind.  



Jesus emptied Himself of all His power as God upon the earth (Philippians 2:5-11).  






His power came from continually yielding to God's Holy Spirit while He was upon the earth.  



He functioned showing us how to do it.  






If Jesus had said everything that crossed His mind, He would have been operating being lead by His physical body. 






The impulses of our physical bodies are harmful to our walk with God (John 6:63).  






When Jesus would say and do what God, the Father, directed Him to say and do, He was following God's Holy Spirit.






We must be like Jesus.  






We must not say everything that crosses our minds like Jesus.  






We must say and do only what God, our Father, tells us to say and do.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. In Trouble?

What do we do in the middle of trouble? Do I trust God when I don't understand? That's the situation the captives found themselves in, and this was God's response. Jeremiah 29:4-11  (NLT) 4  This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: 5  “Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce.   6  Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! The Book of Thoughts

Isaiah 55   (NKJV) 7  Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Wicked ways begin in the thoughts.  We must take responsibility for our thoughts.  We can think upon whatever we choose to think upon.   Let him return to the  Lord , And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. 8  “For My thoughts  are  not your thoughts, Nor  are  your ways My ways,” says the  Lord . The Bible is a book of the thoughts of God.   What we think is a choice.   We can think upon what God has said.  We, too, have the power of forgetting offenses.  Thoughts of unforgiveness will tempt us, but we are not to take them.  Forgiveness is a choice.  God said...
