John 3:5-7  (NKJV)
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

Some people believe that if you are born physically you are a child of God and are automatically going to heaven.

Jesus did not teach this.  He taught that you have to have a second birth by God's Spirit.

John 8:44 (NKJV)
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.

Jesus taught that there are actually two families on the earth.  Those who belong to God, and those who belong to the devil.

How do you get into a family?

You get born into it.

To get into God's family, your spirit has to be born again through God's Spirit.

John 4:20-21  (NKJV)
20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”

21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.

This woman thought that the geographics of the location was extremely important; however, Jesus said that's not true.

God is seeking authentic worshipers to worship Him.

John 4:24 (NKJV)
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

God is a spirit.  The Bible calls God the Father of spirits (Hebrews 12:9).

You are a spirit like God is a spirit.  However, your spirit lives in a body.

Your spirit does not age like your body.  It is eternal.

To God a 1000 years is like a moment. To our spirits, a 1000 years is like a moment.

Psalm 90:4 (NKJV)
For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it is past,
And like a watch in the night.

God has planted his family into the earth like a farmer plants seed (James 5:7).

John 4:23 (NKJV)
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

God is not looking for memorized stuff and rituals.

He is seeking those who want to have an authentic relationship with Him.

John 6:63 (NKJV)
63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.

The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Life.  He is the Spirit of Resurrection.

If we've asked Jesus to come into us, the Holy Spirit is in us.  We need to be more mindful of that.

1 John 4:4  (NKJV)
... He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Galatians 5:25 (NKJV)
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16  (NKJV)
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

We must be aware of God's Holy Spirit within us.

John 6:63 (NKJV)
63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

God's words are like food to our spirits.  They are life giving.  We should read His Word, the Bible daily.

Your spirit can know things that your head does not know.

You can have God's Holy Spirit by inviting Him in.  It's by recognizing His desire to come in, and inviting Him to do so.

Revelation 3:20  (NKJV)
20 Behold, I (Jesus) stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

The Worry Pill

Matthew 6:19-34 (NKJV) 19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22  “The lamp of the body (the window that lets in the light) is the eye. If therefore your eye is good (opened), your whole body will be full of light.  23  But if your eye is bad (closed) , your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great  is  that darkness! (Our eyes allow light to give us direction).   24  “No one can serve two masters (an inability to focus in one direction); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise t...
