Isaiah 30:15 (ESV)
15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”
But you were unwilling,
Isaiah 32:17 (ESV)
17 And the effect of righteousness will be peace,
and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever...
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”
But you were unwilling,
Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
If you are yielding to the Holy Spirit, you are experiencing peace and rest, and not strife and conflict.
Isaiah 63:14 (ESV)
14 Like livestock that go down into the valley,
the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest...
Living in the Holy Spirit is living in God's rest.
We're not supposed to be anxious or vexed.
We're not supposed to be frustrated.
We're not supposed to be conformed to this world.
If we're in faith, it's hard to shake us.
It's hard to scare us.
We have the Holy Spirit who gives us rest.
You can pace yourself to death, and cut your life short.
Many physical problems are due to tension.
Psalm 127:2 (ESV)
the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest...
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
The Spirit of God is the Spirit who gives rest.
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Philippians 4:7 (ESV)
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
You can be resting while you are awake.
Restoration is the result of rest.
John 11:11-12 (ESV)
11 After saying these things, he (Jesus) said to them,
“Our friend Lazarus has fal
len asleep, but I go to awaken him.”
12 The disciples said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.
”
If you can rest, you can recover.
People don't rest when they get a bad report.
You can cast that care upon the Lord.
If you are worrying and fretting, you are not in faith.
Faith can not be separated from rest.
Acts 2:26 (NKJV)
26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad;
Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.
Rest is the product of hope. If you are in faith, you are also in hope.
Hebrews 11:1 (NET Bible)
11 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.
If I'm expecting good, then I can rest.
If I'm not resting on in the inside, I'm not resting on the outside.
If you're fully persuaded that you believed that you received when you prayed, your flesh can rest in confidence.
Let's quit yielding to things that's wear us out.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
Most stuff is small.
Don't worry about anything that you can't do anything about.
You can't do anything about it, so why worry.
Don't worry about anything that you can do something about.
Go ahead and do something about it.
Philippians 4:6 (NET Bible)
6 Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.
1 Peter 5:7 (NET Bible)
7 by casting all your cares on him (God) because he cares for you.
Worrying makes things worse.
You could help if you get in faith.
Matthew 6:25 (ESV)
“Therefore I (Jesus) tell you, do not be anxious about your life.
Faith doesn't worry.
No exceptions.
If you're worrying, you're not in faith.
John 14:1 (ESV)
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me (Jesus).
If we are commanded not to worry, it is a choice, and we can do it.
John 16:33 (CEB)
33 I’ve (Jesus) said these things to you so that you will have peace in me.
In the world you have distress.
But be encouraged!
I have conquered the world.”
Don't yield to stuff that's going to hurt you.
If you can rest on the inside, you can rest on the outside.
If you're in hope, it allows for your body to rest.
Luke 10:5-6 (ESV)
5 Whatever house you enter, first say,
‘Peace be to this house!’
6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him.
But if not, it will return to you.
We can speak peace to others.
We need peace to calm us down.
We can be totally free.
We've got God's peace.
The peace of God passes understanding.
Our peace comes from the big picture.
The pain in this life is very brief.
We can have God's divine heavenly perspective.
It's never as bad as the devil makes it out to be.
God can take the most horrible things that the devil tries to do to us, and turn it out for our good (Romans 8:28).
The rough stuff now is not worthy to be compared to the glory that shall be revealed in us (Romans 8:18).
None of these bad things will move me.
We can be in rest facing death.
We have no fear of the unknown.
Our God is on the other side.
It is better to depart and be with Christ.
If we can face death and not fear, nothing else can effect us.
Hebrews 3:18-19 (ESV)
18 And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?
19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.
The Hebrews escaped Egypt, but the adults never made it into the promised land.
It wasn't the giants that kept them out.
It was unbelief.
The thing that kept them out of rest was unbelief.
It kept them out of the promised land.
They needed to be more concerned of unbelief than the giants that lived there.
Hebrews 4 (NKJV)
4 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest,
let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.
2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them;
but the word which they heard did not profit them,
not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:
“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
It was not God's will for them to die in the desert.
None of the adults made it in, but Joshua and Caleb.
Their kids made it in.
What is strong enough to prevent the will of God?
4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way:
“And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”;
From the beginning of creation, God rested.
This happened before the law.
The Lord knows that we need rest.
5 and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”
6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it,
and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,
7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David,
“Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”
Do not harden your hearts.
