Resisting?

Romans 6:12-13  (KJV)

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Satan tries to convince us that what he is tempting us to do is from God.

If we don't know God's Word, we are easily tricked.

2 Corinthians 11:14 (NKJV)
14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

Satan will try to convince us to resist God and to submit to him by deceiving us into believing that his temptations are God's promptings.

Acts 7:51  (KJV)
51 You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you.

We don't want to resist the Holy Spirit, and not realize it.

Exodus 16  (NKJV)
2 Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

The people murmured against Moses and Aaron, and God took it personally.

7 And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord; for He hears your complaints against the Lord.

But what are we, that you complain against us (Moses and Aaron)?”

8 Also Moses said, “This shall be seen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to the full;

for the Lord hears your complaints which you make against Him.

And what are we? Your complaints are not against us but against the Lord.”

God had sent Moses and Aaron, and God has told them what to say.

Therefore, when they murmured again them, they were murmuring against God.

You might think that you have a problem with people, but your problem might be with God Himself.

God is not very real to most people.

Many people don't recognize the Holy Spirit.

Beware of speaking against people who are speaking for the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 4:8 (NKJV)
8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

Attributing the works of the Holy Spirit to an evil spirit is blasphemy.

Matthew 12:32 (NKJV)
32 ... whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

Before Saul (later called Paul) was converted, He persecuted the Church.  This is what Jesus said to Paul about it.

Acts 9:4-5  (NKJV)
4 Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”

5 And he said, “Who are You, Lord?”

Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”

When Paul persecuted the Church, Jesus took it personally. Jesus said why are you persecuting me?

1 Thessalonians 4:8  (NKJV)
8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

God is big on delegation. When you reject whom God has sent, you are rejecting God.

1 John 2:23  (NKJV)
23 Whoever denies the Son (Jesus) does not have the Father (God) either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

John 8:24  (NKJV)
24 Therefore I (Jesus) said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He (whom God has sent), you will die in your sins.”

We are to believe whom God has sent, Jesus.  Then, we are to believe those whom Jesus has sent to speak on His behalf.

Luke 10:16 (NKJV)
16 He who hears you hears Me (Jesus), he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

1 Samuel 2:30 (NKJV)
...for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.

If we dishonor whom God has sent, we are dishonoring Him.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

The Worry Pill

Matthew 6:19-34 (NKJV) 19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22  “The lamp of the body (the window that lets in the light) is the eye. If therefore your eye is good (opened), your whole body will be full of light.  23  But if your eye is bad (closed) , your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great  is  that darkness! (Our eyes allow light to give us direction).   24  “No one can serve two masters (an inability to focus in one direction); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise t...
