Phony vs Real?

John 3 (NKJV)

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

We must learn to discern between the flesh and the Spirit.

John 4 (NKJV)

23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

We must learn to worship God in the Spirit and not in the flesh.  Our worship must not be fake.

The enemy likes to substitute the phony for the real.

2 Corinthians 11(NKJV)

14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

The devil comes as a messenger of God with lies and says that God has said it.

He copies, imitates and perverts.

God is seeking true worshipers which is lead by His Spirit.

He is tired of fake worship which is lead by the flesh.

John 4 (NKJV)

24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 6 (NKJV)

63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.

The words that I (Jesus) speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Our flesh is dying.  Our spirits are renewing.  Dead has permeated God's creation.

We are in a cycle of birth and then death.  Everything in the earth is in this cycle.

We have an opportunity to receive God's Holy Spirit to be renewed in our inner person.

Romans 6:23  (NKJV)

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 4 (NKJV)

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

People act old because they think old, but our inner person never ages if we have received God's Holy Spirit.

You don't have to be old in your spirit or you mind.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

1 Corinthians 15:52 (NKJV)

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

The flesh can feel old, but the inner person can feel renewed.

The inner person can effect the outer person.

John 6 (NKJV)

63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.

The words that I (Jesus) speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

We are talking about discerning what is of the flesh and that which is of the Holy Spirit.

That which is of the Holy Spirit is life giving.  That which is of the flesh is life draining.

If we do things the Holy Spirit directs, the Holy Spirit is in it.

It is the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus up from the dead.

Romans 8 (NKJV)

11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,

He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Have you noticed that death is being programmed into us.  Skulls, crossbows, darkness and such.

Why all the cursing?  Why all the evil?  Satan is in control of this world, and he is trying to kill us prematurely.

If we receive God's Holy Spirit as God's gift, we can escape this.

Ephesians 2:2  (NKJV)

2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power (Satan) of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

We must not talk about anything that crosses our minds which Satan place there.

We must speak words of life and peace which God's Holy Spirit gives.

Ephesians 4:29  (NKJV)

29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

We must not talk about the problem, but the answer.  Talk about how easy it is for our God to solve it.  Do your words help or hurt?

Proverbs 18:21(NKJV) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

The Worry Pill

Matthew 6:19-34 (NKJV) 19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22  “The lamp of the body (the window that lets in the light) is the eye. If therefore your eye is good (opened), your whole body will be full of light.  23  But if your eye is bad (closed) , your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great  is  that darkness! (Our eyes allow light to give us direction).   24  “No one can serve two masters (an inability to focus in one direction); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise t...
