Is it God?

2 Corinthians 3 (NKJV)
6 ...the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Walking in the Holy Spirit is life giving.

Walking in the flesh is life draining.

Before you make a decision.

Stay at home.

Pray in the Spirit.

Get His direction before you attempt to make a decision.

Proverbs 3:5-6  (NKJV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

The New Testament command is love (John 15:12), so we are always to be aware of how our decisions effect others.

We are to seek God first before a decision is made(Matthew 6:33).

Don't blame other people for your lack of praying and seeking the Holy Spirit first (Matthew 7:7).

I'm talking about being Spiritual and not fleshy and selfish.

Spiritual people know beforehand and are prepared.  You've got the Spirit of God helping you.

Wait on the inner witness and an answer from God.

2 Corinthians 3 (NKJV)
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

You can identify the Holy Spirit's inner witness because He gives life and liberation.

John 8 (NKJV)
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The opposite of liberation is bondage.  Like the opposite of life is death.

When the Holy Spirit is speaking to people, they are getting set free.

The enemy imitates the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 11 (NKJV)
14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

Satan will even quote scriptures (Matthew 4:6).

One of the ways that you can tell it's not God.  It won't set you free.

Satan will always put you into bondage, and take away your joy and peace.

1 John 4 (NKJV)
4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God...

Just because something is real and spiritual doesn't mean that it is of God.

John 8:44  (NKJV)
... He (Satan) was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.

When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

2 Corinthians 2 (NKJV)
...Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Don't accept every thought or feeling coming to you.

Scriptures are right, but you don't want the devil quoting them to you because he will twist them.

2 Corinthians 3 (NKJV)
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

One of the bondages is not knowing.

Once God gives you His wisdom it sets you free.

You know what to resist and what to yield to.

You know what is Spirit and what is flesh.

You know if it's God Spirit or a demonic spirit.

Liberty does not mean that we are free to flesh out.

1 Corinthians 6:12  (NKJV)
12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

Romans 6:22 (NKJV)
22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

We are not to be in bondage to ungodly habits.  It's means to be free from fear, timidity, and confusion.

Romans 8:2  (NKJV)
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Seek and you will find...

What you are looking for. You will find it.

Luke 10:26-28  (NKJV)
26 He (Jesus) said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?

If you're looking for judgement in the Bible, you will find it.

Even if you thought God was a God of judgement, just obey Him and that concern would go away.

You'll see things in the Bible that are not there.

The author of the Bible is the Spirit of Life and the Spirit of Truth that sets us free.

Why not look for that?

How are you reading the Bible?

Jesus says, what are you looking for?

Great teacher inside of me.  Please teach me in every verse.

Let's not focus on all the junk in the world, but we serve a good God.

Psalm 34:8 (NKJV)
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

Don't yield to the devil that is in the world.

If we want to be the light of the world, we need to be different.

There is a lot of evil, devilish junk in the world that rejects the Scriptures.

It's a proud, condemning spirit.

They might even be quoting the Scriptures, but they are trying to put you into bondage.

Luke 9:54-55  (NKJV)
54 And when His (Jesus's) disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”

55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.

We don't want people destroyed.  We want them to be forgiven.

Romans 2:4 New King James Version (NKJV)
... the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

We don't have to point out other people's sins and mistakes.

We don't condone it, but we can be kind and a friend no matter what.

We must have light in our eyes.  Joy in our hearts, and peace on our insides.

1 John 4:4  (NKJV)
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Your words can be life giving and liberating.

Nobody is going to hell for smoking, drinking, or cussing.

There is one sin that sends people there.

It's rejecting Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

All this stuff is a heavy burden.

People think that they are going to hell.

God does not want them to go, but to come in and acknowledge that they need Jesus.

Isaiah 50:4 (NKJV)
“The Lord God has given Me
The tongue of the learned,
That I should know how to speak
A word in season to him who is weary.
He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear
To hear as the learned.

No matter had bad the situation is.  The Holy Spirit knows how to speak life into it.

Romans 8:2 (NKJV)
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:14-15 (NKJV)
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Wrong spirits will try to lead you into bondage.

Hebrews 2:14-15  (NKJV)
14 ... He (Jesus) Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Everything in this life is temporary.

Therefore, no matter how bad it gets.

It will change.

If I've messed up everything in this life and I'm born again, I've still got it made.

When I'm out of here, I'm headed for Jesus in heaven.

We shouldn't take this life so seriously.

When we stand at a grave, it's just about 20 minutes in God time before we we will see them again.

We've received God's forgiveness through Jesus Christ.  We've received cleansing from our sins.

1 John 1:9  (NKJV)
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Psalm 103:12  (NKJV)
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

2 Corinthians 5:21  (NKJV)
21 For He made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

A wrong spirit can quote a right Scripture (Matthew 4:6).

1 Corinthians 13:12  (NKJV)
... Now I know in part...

It's the part that you don't know which can be problematic.

One thing that I can do is to try the spirits (1 John 4:1).

Sometimes something will seem right in your head, but when you close your eyes.  You know something is wrong in it.

It's from the wrong spirit.

If something is wrong, get away from it.

Trust what you get from the Holy Spirit.

You'll never know enough to mentally figure it out.  Trust in the Holy Spirit within you.

Romans 8:15  (NKJV)
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

The Worry Pill

Matthew 6:19-34 (NKJV) 19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22  “The lamp of the body (the window that lets in the light) is the eye. If therefore your eye is good (opened), your whole body will be full of light.  23  But if your eye is bad (closed) , your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great  is  that darkness! (Our eyes allow light to give us direction).   24  “No one can serve two masters (an inability to focus in one direction); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise t...
