Faith that Walks

People who attempt to ask complicated questions are trying to get noticed because of their pride.

When people don't get what they've prayed for, they'll embrace another message.

It is usually something like this "it's all up to God", and they take no responsibility for their failure.

When we don't receive what we ask for in faith, it was not actually faith at all.

You can't just claim anything.  Unless the Lord tells you to claim it.  It's not of God.

When there's a problem, don't immediately look at God as if He is the problem.  Look into the mirror.

The problem is with you.  If you were in real faith, it would have happened.

Pride will assume that you've done everything right, and God let you down.

Maybe it was because of where you were in your faith, and you asked too big.

It wasn't too big for God.  It was too big for you to believe at your current level of faith.

If you ask big, you've got to be prepared to stand long.

The passage of time must not persuade you to believe that God is no longer trustworthy.

If you truly heard from God first, you can believe Him.  If you didn't hear from God at all, it is presumption not faith.

True Faith is expectant and excited.

Don't choose a date or a time to give up on God.  Get back into faith and expect God to come through.  A clock on the wall can't measure the faithfulness of God.

What if you just stop believing and become disappointed.  You will never receive from God.  There is a lot people who call this faith, but it is not.

2 Timothy 1:5  (CEV)
I also remember the genuine faith of your mother Eunice. Your grandmother Lois had the same sort of faith, and I am sure that you have it as well.

Paul saw true faith in Eunice and Lois, and could see it in Timothy as well.

Hebrews 11:1 (NET Bible)
11 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.

Faith is the proof of what's not seen, but faith in a person can be seen.

If faith is in you, it will be evident in you.  Faith is the proof of things not seen.

Jesus could see faith in these people who brought their friend to Him.

Mark 2(NKJV)
And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house.

Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them.

Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men.

And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was.

So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.

These friends wouldn't take no from their circumstances.

When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

Real faith can be seen through your words and actions.

Who would tear up somebody's house if they didn't expect a healing.

If you're in faith, you'll be so convinced, you'll go through great lengths.

Faith has evidence.

And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,

“Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?

Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’?

10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic,

11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”

12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

False faith is big talk with no action. You can't see phony faith. You can hear it, but you won't see it.

James 2:14-26  (CEB)
14 My brothers and sisters, what good is it if people say they have faith but do nothing to show it? Claiming to have faith can’t save anyone, can it?

He's not talking about the works of the law, but acting on faith.  It's talking about what you do as you walk in faith.

15 Imagine a brother or sister who is naked and never has enough food to eat.

16 What if one of you said, “Go in peace! Stay warm! Have a nice meal!”? What good is it if you don’t actually give them what their body needs?

If faith is all talk, it's not real faith.  It's just bragging.  Do you know people who just love to talk?

They may even quote scripture, but where is there faith when faith is needed?

17 In the same way, faith is dead when it doesn’t result in faithful activity.

18 Someone might claim, “You have faith and I have action.” But how can I see your faith apart from your actions?

Instead, I’ll show you my faith by putting it into practice in faithful action.

Faith can be shown by your actions.  If you won't do anything but talk, it is not real.

19 It’s good that you believe that God is one. Ha! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble with fear.

20 Are you so slow? Do you need to be shown that faith without actions has no value at all?

21 What about Abraham, our father? Wasn’t he shown to be righteous through his actions when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

22 See, his faith was at work along with his actions. In fact, his faith was made complete by his faithful actions.

Hearing faith and believing that you receive is the beginning of faith.

The completion of faith is acting upon what you say that you believe.

Fact is an act.

It is not deterred by religion or circumstances. It acts upon what you believe.

23 So the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and God regarded him as righteous. What is more, Abraham was called God’s friend.

24 So you see that a person is shown to be righteous through faithful actions and not through faith alone.

25 In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute shown to be righteous when she received the messengers as her guests and then sent them on by another road?

26 As the lifeless body is dead, so faith without actions is dead.

Hebrews 13:7 (NKJV)
Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith followconsidering the outcome of their conduct.

Leaders are for our protection.  You must voluntarily submit yourself to them.

They are not supposed to lord it over you.   You couldn't follow their faith if you couldn't see it.

You shouldn't be following teaching without results.

You should learn from someone else's mistakes, and not make them yourself.

You should be able to name the people who are over you in the Lord.

I'm not an empty talker, but I'm a doer.

It's time to quit talking and just asking questions.

It's time to walk in faith.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

The Worry Pill

Matthew 6:19-34 (NKJV) 19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22  “The lamp of the body (the window that lets in the light) is the eye. If therefore your eye is good (opened), your whole body will be full of light.  23  But if your eye is bad (closed) , your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great  is  that darkness! (Our eyes allow light to give us direction).   24  “No one can serve two masters (an inability to focus in one direction); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise t...
