Don't Settle

Hebrews 6:18  (NKJV)

... impossible for God to lie...

2 Corinthians 4:4  (NKJV)

... (People's) minds the god of this age has blinded...

1 John 5:19  (NKJV)

... the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one (Satan).

2 Peter 3  (NKJV)

The Lord is ...not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

God's will is not being done on earth as it is in heaven.

If it was, everyone on earth would be joining God in heaven with Him after they die.

Deuteronomy 30(NKJV)

19 I (Moses) call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing;

therefore choose life,
 that both you and your descendants may live;

20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days;

If God is controlling everything, you choose cannot be.

God is not controlling you unless you allow Him too.

John 4  (NKJV)

23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

What we do effects what happens to us.  If you do stupid stuff and not listen to God, it will cost you.

Revelation 3  (NKJV)

20 Behold, I (Jesus) stand at the door and knock.

If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

If you don't ask Jesus in, He won't come.

John 4 (NKJV)
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 14 (NKJV)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 6 (NKJV)

63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I (Jesus) speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

If you've invited Jesus to live within you, He is in you.

When you yield yourself to Him, He will manifest Himself to you.

God speaks to us through a thought that we realize has come from Him which lines up with Scripture.

The world speaks death.  They say I was tickled to death.  That scared me to death.  We must not speak death upon ourselves.

John 6(NKJV)

63 It is the Spirit who gives life...

The Holy Spirit speaks life giving words.

You are a spirit that lives in a body.

When you ask Jesus to come in, His Holy Spirit comes to live within you, too.

Romans 8 (NKJV)

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

The Holy Spirit communicates with our born again human spirit with life giving words saying that we are God's offspring.

In learning how to be lead by the Holy Spirit, look for a witness of peace inside of you.

Colossians 3:15  (NKJV)

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts...

Matthew 7:7  (NKJV)

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

If you've invited the Holy Spirit in, somebody besides you is within you.

I'm not talking about hearing audible voices.

Romans 8 (NKJV)

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Your flesh is in contact with the physical world.

What you hear, taste, touch, smell, and see.

The Holy Spirit is in contact with your born again human spirit.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh,

God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,

that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us

who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh,

but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

We are not body and minds.  Our minds can contact the body on the outside, or the Holy Spirit on the inside.

We can focus our minds on the body and follow the flesh.

We can focus on the Holy Spirit and follow Him.

We need to be more God inside minded and follow the Holy Spirit within us.

Romans 8:6 (NKJV)

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Pleasing God requires walking in the Spirit, and walking in faith.   Walking in the flesh does not require faith.

Hebrews 11 (NKJV)

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Walking in the flesh is walking by sight.

2 Corinthians 5 (NKJV)

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Romans 8 (NKJV)

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.

Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

Galatians 5 (NKJV)

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Romans 8:10  (NKJV)

10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Our bodies are in the process of dying.

11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,

He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons (children) of God.

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear,

but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

We've got to wait for the Holy Spirit's direction and not get impatient.

We need it.

It's there.

We've got to wait for God's peace.

Look for the witness of the Holy Spirit.

Wait for the witness.

There is so much that we don't know, but the Holy Spirit does.

Don't settle, or move to quick.

Wait on the witness.

Don't focus on the price.

You'll never know enough to make perfect decisions.

Who knows the future?

The Holy Spirit does.

We get there by faith and by following the Holy Spirit.

The flesh by nature is impatient.

Keep seeking.

Keep looking.

Keep listening for the Holy Spirit's witness.

Matthew 7(NKJV)

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Obey Him who is within you, and exercise patience.

Don't quit until you find it.

James 1:4 (NKJV)

But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

The Worry Pill

Matthew 6:19-34 (NKJV) 19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22  “The lamp of the body (the window that lets in the light) is the eye. If therefore your eye is good (opened), your whole body will be full of light.  23  But if your eye is bad (closed) , your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great  is  that darkness! (Our eyes allow light to give us direction).   24  “No one can serve two masters (an inability to focus in one direction); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise t...
