Digging Deep?

Luke 8
 (NASB)
When a large crowd was coming together,

and those from the various cities were journeying to Him,

He (Jesus) spoke by way of a parable:

“The sower went out to sow his seed;

and as he sowed, some fell beside the road,

and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up.

Other seed fell on rocky soil

and as soon as it grew up,

it withered away, because it had no moisture.

Other seed fell among the thorns;

and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out.

Other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up,

and produced a crop a hundred times as great.”

As He said these things, He would call out,

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

What makes ears to here?

It's a willing heart.

His disciples began questioning Him as to what this parable meant.

10 And He said,

“To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God,

but to the rest it is in parables,

so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

11 “Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God.

The power of a seed is within it. The word empowers you with the ability to do it.

Philippians 2:13 (NKJV)
13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Our hearts are the ground that God plants His seed into.

75% of the soils get no results.

Matthew 13:5 (NLT)
Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow.

The second soil was quick to receive; however, they were quick to quit.  We must count the cost.

Luke 14:28 (ESV)
28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?

25% of the people who hear the word of God get no results because they don't take the time to dig out the stones of unwillingness in their hearts on their own.

To fix stony ground, we've got to dig.

The seed has to have roots in order to survive.

Before there is fruit, there must be roots.

When roots go down, you still can't tell anything is happening.

Luke 8:6 (NASB)
Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.

It's just as important that the seed be watered as it is to be planted.

Planting is the first time you hear it.

Watering is hearing it explained again and again.  This is the process.

We need to get so full of the word.  There is no room for the problem.

If your problem is health, focus on healing scriptures.  If your problem is lack, focus on provision scriptures.

The stony soil had a lack of soil because of the underlying rock which also caused a lack of moisture.

Luke 8:13 (NASB)
13 Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear,

receive the word with joy;

and these have no firm root; they believe for a while,

and in time of temptation (tests) fall away.

Roots give you stability and staying power.

Matthew 13:21  (KJV)
21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while:

for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word,

by and by he is offended.

The test is designed by Satan to separate you from the seed.

If Satan can't separate it, it will produce results.

Satan uses pain in regards to what we are believing.

We got a hold onto the good word of God, and not let go.

Luke 8:15(NASB)

15 But the seed in the good soil

these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart,

and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

The Worry Pill

Matthew 6:19-34 (NKJV) 19  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22  “The lamp of the body (the window that lets in the light) is the eye. If therefore your eye is good (opened), your whole body will be full of light.  23  But if your eye is bad (closed) , your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great  is  that darkness! (Our eyes allow light to give us direction).   24  “No one can serve two masters (an inability to focus in one direction); for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise t...
