Breaking an Addiction

Romans 4:17  (NKJV)
17 ...God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

God calls those things that are not as though they were.

Ephesians 5:1  (NKJV)
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

We are to imitate God including calling those things that are not as though they were.

Romans 6:11  (NKJV)
11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The problem is right under your nose.  It's called your mouth.

Faith says although I haven't done it yet, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me; therefore, I will do it because God says I can.

1 John 4:4 (NKJV)
... He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

If God says I'm free, I'm free.  I believe God not my surroundings.

To speak opposite to what God's Word says is to speak in opposition to God.

Malachi 3:13 (KJV)
Your words have been stout against me, saith the Lord.

If God says you can and you say I can't, guess what happens, you can't.

Hebrews 4:2 (NKJV)
For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.

Your words carry more weight in your life more than anyone else's words.

For God's word to work in your life, you must mix it with your faith and speak it out your mouth.

Romans 10:9-10 (NKJV)
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

God's given us this choice to chose our words even if it disagrees with Him.

If God speaks life to me, why should I  continue to speak death about myself?

If God says I'm free, I'm free.  If God says I'm righteousness, I righteousness.

I call those things that be not as though they were just like God.  I mix it with my faith, and they happen.

God calls it into being.  We are God's children.  We have His nature inside of us.

We are to imitate God.  We are to speak and act like God even when we don't understand how it will happen.

(You) Reckon yourself to be dead to sin and alive to God no matter how it feels.

Romans 6:11  (NKJV)
11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God is willing to help you do what you should want to do already, and to give you the ability to do it.

Philippians 2:13 (NKJV)
13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Let's offer to God our words.  Even when it doesn't feel that way.  You need to say it the most when it doesn't feel that way.

Hebrews 3:1  (NKJV)
Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,

Jesus takes whatever we say as our High Priest and offers them to God.

Romans 6:13  (NKJV)
And (You) do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin,

but (You) present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

Who is going to make you yield to God?  You!  God will not force you to yield to Him in this life.

Satan can't force you to yield to Him either, and he can't stop you from yielding to God.  You must yield yourselves to God.

James 4:7 (NKJV)
Therefore (You) submit to God. (You) Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear...

Where is God when times get tough?

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT) 35  As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”  Faith is based upon something.  Jesus said that they were all going across the lake.  The disciples should have based their faith upon what Jesus had said.   36  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  37  But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. You can be in the center of the will of God, and the journey can get tough.  38  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  Faith doesn't fret.  Jesus was in the same ship as they were, but he was relaxed and asleep.   The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Our mi...

In Trouble?

What do we do in the middle of trouble? Do I trust God when I don't understand? That's the situation the captives found themselves in, and this was God's response. Jeremiah 29:4-11  (NLT) 4  This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: 5  “Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce.   6  Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away!  7  And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.” 8  This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let your prophets and fortune-tellers who are with you in the land of Babylon trick you. Do not listen to their dreams...
