Great faith respects God, His Word, and His People. We have a big problem in our society for a lack of respect. Faith shows honor.
Matthew 8:5-13 (ESV)
5 When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion (An Ancient Roman Commander) came forward to him (Jesus), appealing to him,
6 “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”
The Centurion showed Jesus respect by calling Him Lord. He didn't tell Jesus what to do, but humbly asked. The centurion understood that he was in charge as a Roman commander in the physical world, but in the spirit world, Jesus was the commander in the spirit world. Great faith cannot be separated from great respect.
7 And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
If you don't respect Jesus, He will resist you, but if you humble yourself, He will come to your aid (James 4:6).
8 But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.
This man had great respect for Jesus and His word. He had great respect for Jesus's word, but had total disregard to his servant's illness.
9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
The centurion understood the power of rank. If he was told to do something, he'd do it. He didn't have to reason it out. He'd do what he was told to do. He understood that the power of rank that he had as a soldier. Jesus has rank in the spirit world.
10 When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.
Jesus told this man who was not keeping company with Him that he had greater faith than His disciples who lived with Him.
The lessons that we learn in the physical world helps us understand the spiritual world.
The lessons that we learn in the physical world helps us understand the spiritual world.
11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,
12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.
If you are ready to believe, Jesus is willing to bless. What would Jesus say about your faith?
