1. Faith must be feed the
Word of God for it to grow.
Bible teaching may be a percentage of tradition, fear, and unbelief.
It
is very important what you hear. God's Word is 100% faith food. Nobody's
book or teaching is.
Romans 10:17 (ESV)
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing
through the word of Christ.
Faith must be based upon the Word of God.
1 John 5:14 (ESV)
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
Lamentations 3:37 (ESV)
37 Who has spoken and it came to pass,
unless the Lord has commanded it?
Numbers 22:18 (ESV)
18 But Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, “Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the command of the Lord my God to do less or more.
2. Faith is a choice.
Do not yield to fear.
Choose to have faith. You don't have to act upon how you
feel. You can chose to have faith.
Mark 4:40 (ESV)
40 He (Jesus) said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you
still no faith?”
Jesus was asking how could you have no faith after you've been listening to my teaching?
Psalm 23:4 (ESV)
4 Even though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You can be in a situation that tempts you to fear, but you
don't have to yield to it. You can choose to have faith.
Luke 8:24-25(ESV)
24 And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are
perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and
they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And
they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then
is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?”
Jesus said that they had an
opportunity to use their faith in a bad situation, but did not. He asked them where their faith is?
3. If you choose to believe
on a regular basis, you're faith develops.
James 1:2-4 (ESV)
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
4 And let steadfastness have its full
effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
