Baseless Faith

If it's all up to God no matter what you do, what's the point of you praying.

God is faithful, and faith works if it is real faith.

You can't believe God for what you've never heard from Him first.

If you put your faith in what God says, you won't be embarrassed.

Romans 10  (NKJV)
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?

You can't believe God for what you've never heard Him promise to you.

If you believe God for something, He's never promised, you will get embarrassed.

And how shall they hear without a preacher?
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”

God's Word must be mixed with faith inside of those who hear Him to get the benefit of what God has promised to them personally.

17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Faith in God is based upon you hearing from God on a specific promise made personally to you.

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Substance is the foundation in which we build our faith upon.   It's not faith in faith, or faith in self.

It's based upon the character of the person doing the promising.

If it's God whom you are trusting, He can be trusted to do what He has said to you.

Mark 9:23  (NKJV)
Jesus teaching: Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

The context of whom Jesus is talking about is believing in God who is fully reliable.

You can only believe God for what He has promised to you to do. It is based upon what He told you.

Romans 10:14 How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?

You can't claim anything by faith.

It may sound like faith, and look like faith, but if you haven't heard from God first.

It's not faith.

It is baseless.

It is true all things are possible to him who believes.  It is not true that you can believe God for all things.

You can only believe by hearing from God, and how can you hear is through God's anointed Word as taught to you by His Holy Spirit.

We've all gotten off track believing God for something that God has not promised.  Satan tries to get us off track with things like that.

John 15:4 (NKJV)
Jesus teaching: Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

We can't produce without a vital connection with the vine. A vital connection is two way.  Hearing from God first, and then believing what He has said.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Abiding in Christ is two way.  Hearing from God first and then believing what He has said.  If you don't do this, it won't work.

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

If you first hear from God and then believe what He says, you can ask God for what He has promised and believe Him to grant.

You can't claim and confess what God has not promised.  It is baseless.  It won't work.  Why would anyone claim what God has not promised?

If you claim what others have, that is coveting and that is a sin.  You may be trying to impress other people with your faith.  You're seeking your own glory.

John 5:44  (NKJV)
Jesus teaching: How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?

To receive from God, you look to God realizing you can't do anything without His help. It's not about your glory but His.

Just trust God. What does that mean?

The only thing that you can trust God to do is what He has told you that He will do for you.

You must hear from God for yourself. Your will and mind must align with His.

John 12:43 (NKJV)
43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

We need to forget about what other people think. Your faith is between you and God.

Romans 14:12 (NKJV)
12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.

The fear of man is a snare.  Don't be concerned about what other people think.  It will keep you from hearing from God.

You must step out and do what God tells you to do. Jesus made Himself of no reputation to please His Father (Philippians 2:5-12).

How can you believe unless you hear first from God?  You can't confess or pray for anything. This is what Satan tempted Jesus to do.

Matthew 4:6 (NKJV)
and (Satan) said to Him, “If You (Jesus) are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”

If you've got faith, Jesus, jump Satan said.  For Jesus to have jumped, He first had to have heard from God to do it.

Satan was tempting Jesus with Scripture out of context. If Jesus had jumped without hearing from God His Father, He would have experienced gravity.

Jesus hadn't first heard from God; therefore, He didn't jump.  We must first hear from God personally to trust.

John 5:19 NKJV)
19 Then Jesus answered and said to them...the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do...

John 8:28 (NKJV)
28 Then Jesus said to them... “ I do nothing of Myself...

Romans 14:22  (NKJV)
22 Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.

Your faith is personal between you and God.

If it bothers your heart,  it is not faith.  You won't have confidence in God for the request.

1 John 3 (NKJV)
20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.

In every decision, we must hear first from God.  You can't receive in Faith what God hasn't promised.

23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.

Violating your heart is not only not faith, it is sin.

Here is a promise that God has made for everyone including you.

John 3:16  (NKJV)

Jesus speaking: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Please take God's promise, and mix it with your faith. You can believe Him to save you.

Dan Dehaan's Metro Bible Study

In the late 1970s, I attended an interdenominational Bible Study called “the Metro Bible Study” in Metro Atlanta, which began as a Small Group in “Dad” Charles Ellis’ basement. It was taught by Dan Dehaan, and eventually outgrew Dad Ellis’ basement by moving to the Griffin Middle School.  When I first started attending, it had grown to 300 teenagers who meet ever Tuesday night and featured Contemporary Christian Music played by “The Pat Terry Group”.  As the Metro Bible Study continued rapid growth, they eventually moved to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia where it peaked around 1200 attendees.  In the summer of 1982, Dan Dehaan died in a plane crash and teacher John Riley took over. Under John Riley, the Bible Study grew to about 1,500 after eventually moving to Mt. Paran Church of God. When I was first invited to the “Metro Bible Study”, I didn’t go to hear Dan Dehaan teach because I didn’t know who he was.  What I went to hear was “the Pat Terry

In Trouble?

What do we do in the middle of trouble? Do I trust God when I don't understand? That's the situation the captives found themselves in, and this was God's response. Jeremiah 29:4-11  (NLT) 4  This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: 5  “Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce.   6  Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away!  7  And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.” 8  This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let your prophets and fortune-tellers who are with you in the land of Babylon trick you. Do not listen to their dreams,  9  because they are telling you lies in my name. I

Is Your Faith Great?

Great faith respects God, His Word, and His People.  We have a big problem in our society for a lack of respect. Faith shows honor.   Matthew 8:5-13    (ESV) 5  When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion (An Ancient Roman Commander) came forward to him (Jesus), appealing to him,  6  “ Lord , my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”   The Centurion showed Jesus respect by calling Him Lord.   He didn't tell Jesus what to do, but humbly asked.  The centurion understood that he was in charge as a Roman commander in the physical world, but in the spirit world, Jesus was the commander in the spirit world.  Great faith cannot be separated from great respect.    7  And he said to him,  “I will come and heal him.” If you don't respect Jesus, He will resist you, but if you humble yourself, He will come to your aid (James 4:6).   8  But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof , but  only say
